Work Experience

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Work Experience provides students the opportunity to earn an elective credit by combining classroom learning experiences with paid employment

COURSE REQUIREMENTS AND EXPECTATIONS

To earn ½ credit per semester for Work Experience, you must pass the related vocational class to your job. These classes include Marketing, Drafting, Auto Mechanics, etc.

Your workplace must be a legal work location and must be zoned for business. You must be employed on a regular pay-period basis. You must be paid by c company check.

To verify your hours, you must submit your paycheck stubs to the Work experience office. If a check stub is lost, you must have your employer complete a Verification of Hours Worked form and turn it in to the Work Experience office.

A completed training agreement must be on file with the work experience coordinator. Each time you change your job, a new ITP (Individual Training Plan) form must be completed.

If you change jobs or become unemployed during the semester, you must notify the Work Experience coordinator and your counselor immediately.

You must work a minimum of 270 hours (this average to 15 hours per week) during the semester. You cannot carry excess hours into another semester.

If you are terminated from your job, then you risk losing all hours accumulated from that job and/or receiving an ÒFÓ for those hours you worked prior to being fired. This does not include quitting or being laid off.

To obtain credit, a career assessment survey must be taken.

To obtain credit, an employer evaluation must be completed each nine weeks and turned in by the due date given.

GRADING POLICY:

20% of your grade will be primarily based on receiving positive evaluations from your job. You have to turn in one evaluation from your jobsite for each nine-week grading period.

80% of your grade will be based on you turning in the required paperwork on time. This includes the course expectation sheet, your Individual Training Plan (ITP), Individual Training Agreement, Evaluations, Pay stubs, and any other paperwork.

IMPORTANT- PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING ITEMS CAREFULLY:

  1. After the first 10 days of the semester, you will not be able to drop Work Experience. This means that if you do not complete the requirements of the class, you will receive an ÒFÓ grade.

  1. In order to count hours worked, an ITP must be submitted to the Work Experience offices. Any hours more than one week before the ITP is submitted, will not be counted. For example, if you turn in your ITP on September 17th, any hours worked before September 10th will not count.

  1. If you do not have 135 hours at midterm, you will get an UNSAT for your midterm progress and an ÒFÓ for the quarter. This is a warning that you are not on track for obtaining the required minimum 270 hours to receive credit. *Remember, if you do not meet the requirements of the Work Experience program at the end of the semester, you will receive an ÒFÓ grade.

  1. As long as you are working during the school semester, you must submit your paycheck stubs. This means that if you accumulate 270 hours before the end of the semester, you are still obligated to turn in you paycheck stubs for the remainder of the semester. Failure to do so can result in lowering your grade two-letter grades.

I understand the above requirements and expectations for completing Work Experience.
