English I
This class will emphasize the continued development of writing, reading, grammar, vocabulary, critical thinking, listening, problem solving, reasoning and discovery for secondary level students.

English I
Course Goals: Students will:

1. Follow the 5-step writing process.
2. Formulate clear and concise paragraphs with a topic sentence, details
and a conclusion.
3. Create 3 -5 paragraph essays.
4. Construct writing to persuade, inform, narrate and describe.
5. Recognize and correct errors in mechanics, grammar and sentence
structure.
6. Improve spelling skills.
7. Apply reading strategies to enhance comprehension, reading for
information and enjoyment.
8. Improve oral communication skills.
9. Use appropriate strategies which will improve and expand vocabulary.
10. Apply skills required by the
Nevada state proficiency writing
standards as per individual student IEP’s.

Guidance
Students will be taking the guidance class to get assistance with their other classes and become familiar with the various parts of their Individualized Educational plan. The class will be focussing on the following items:

*learn and understand all parts of Individualized Education Program
*learn to advocate for themselves by knowing and understanding
 modifications
*learn to use Parent Link to check grades, attendance, transcripts use time in
class to complete missing assignments or work on homework
learn and use organizational skills
