Photo I Syllabus/Expectations
Course Scope
Photography
I is a multi - faceted traditional B&W course.
This course will encourage an understanding of photography as an art form, and
also as a medium for documentation, communication, interpretation and expression.
35mm manual camera functions, B&W
film processing and B&W printing techniques will
be demonstrated and explored. Students will also be exposed to alternative
photo processing, hand coloring and digital photo manipulation.
Students
will photograph at least 6 - 8 projects out of class. Due to the importance of “deadlines” all work is to be handed in on the
due date.
By the
end of the year each student will acquire skills necessary to produce a photo
worthy of exhibition and the necessary tools to seek employment in the
photography field.
Course Goals
Use
of 35mm film - manual camera.
To
acquire a photographic vocabulary.
Acquire
negative processing and darkroom skills.
Apply and
demonstrate elements and principles of design.
Discern
quality negatives & prints.
Create a
photographic portfolio.
Explore
digital photography.
Investigate
the history of photography
Acquire
skills in the safety, care and use of photographic equipment and materials.
Photographic
presentation.
Use of
the Internet to stay informed of class projects.
Lab fee: Due by the 2nd week of school Sept 16th
no exceptions!
A $ 40 lab fee is
required. The fees will provide materials for 8 photo projects. It is important that parents and students
understand photo students may expend more of the allotted supplies provided
especially film and paper; these are circumstances beyond my control. Student
will not be allowed to use darkroom or supplies until photo fee has been paid.
The lab fee includes:
1 pack of photographic paper, 8 rolls of TMax 100 B&W film, 8 negative
sleeves, 8 dry mount tissues, and 8, 11x14" mount boards.
Supplemental required supplies
Scissors,
Bottle Opener, 3-ring 1” notebook. A pocket notebook to be used for a journal, 1 box of latex
gloves, 2 sheets of 18” x 24” white poster board (will notify when needed).
Supplies may be stored in a cabinet in the classroom,
the school and this instructor are “not” responsible for any lost or stolen
supplies cameras are as.
Cameras
It is required that
you have a 35mm manual camera. One
that you can manipulate shutter speed and aperture.

the classroom:

Classroom Procedures
You must
have your planner to leave the classroom. Be prepared, you will not be allowed to go to your lockers for materials.
Tardy Policy
Students
must sign the tardy sheet.
Attendance Policy:
Attendance
is an essential part of the educational setting and lack thereof can seriously
affect your grade. Policy is consistent with the
Make-up Work/Homework:
Within
three days after an absence, the "student must" contact the teacher
to determine the missed assignment. (CCSD Regulation 5113) Make-up work
represents only a portion of the daily grade subject to the teacher's
discretion.
Exception: Major assignments given more than a week notification of
the due date are due on the students return from an absence. Any major
assignment submitted after a due date may receive reduced credit.
Care of School Property: School equipment is for everyone. Any misuse or
abuse of school property will be treated as destruction of CCSD property.
Students will be prosecuted.

Journal- Pocket Journal. Your journal must have the following: ISO, F#,
shutter speed, time, date, weather conditions.
Safety:
Misuse of
any equipment will not be tolerated. Gloves and protective eyewear must be worn
during processing and printing. PVHS, CCSD & Mr.
Mroz are not responsible for any physical,
personal or property damages. All chemicals are EPA certified. Student and
parent are responsible for any and all damages incurred whether physical or
proprietary.
Questionable Photographic Material will not be
tolerated or accepted
