PART 7 - INDIVIDUAL DRILL DOWN
1. The Individual Drill Down is designed to demonstrate and test the ability of the individual cadet. It is an individual competition based on the elimination system.
2. The competition is open to a maximum of ten (10) JROTC cadets selected by each individual school.
3. All participants must be in a complete uniform including hat/cover and in accordance with grooming standards, and will perform without arms or equipment.
4. The competition will be mass close order drill with commands given by a person selected by and agreed upon by all instructors. The person will be known as the Drill Down Instructor. Individuals will be watched constantly to determine if a mistake is made during drill movements. If a mistake is detected the individual will be eliminated from the competition. This process will continue until one participant is remaining.
5. Care must be exercised by the Drill Down Instructor to avoid calling drill movements which are not listed below.
6. The competition will be handled as follows: Entrants will form up facing the judging stand. They will be given commands by the Drill Down Instructor. The commands will be taken from regulation drill as interpreted in NAVMC 2691, FM 22-5 and AFI 36-2003. While commands are given field judges will observe the responses of the competitors. The slightest irregularity in performance will be grounds for elimination. The judge spotting the error will point to the competitor and the competitor will fall out to the rear and leave the area.
7. As space begins to occur, the Drill Down Instructor will close up the formation and continue with the competition.
8. We realize that judging will always be controversial. When the finest drill team members are the only competitors, errors will in fact be minute and difficult to judge. Our only solution is to provide judges for the event, each of whom has had regulation drill experience. THE DECISION OF THE JUDGES WILL NOT BE QUESTIONED!!
9. The purpose of the event is to permit more students to participate and have a chance to earn an individual award. It is a fun event and participants must be reminded to enter with that thought in mind.
