The Palo Verde High School Visual Arts program offers students an exciting lineup of courses that gives them a wide range of experiences.  Several popular courses include studying the traditional arts of painting, drawing, photography and ceramics.  Students in these courses work with traditional materials such as oil paint, pastels, charcoal, Intaglio printing and clay to create art.

Students who want to dabble in the arts that could lead into a profession take our Special Effects/Monster Maker and Digital Illustration classes. Special Effects teaches the skills of movie/theater makeup, wounds, character sculpting, airbrushing and costuming - skills used in the film/theater industries to create our favorite movie villains or protagonists.  Digital Illustration teaches the always advancing skills of digital art and graphic design. We provide procreate for the students to use, however if the student is already proficient in another drawing program, they are welcome to bring that to use.  Students in the advanced class also learn character design, environment building and book creation.

Art I and Design Crafts allow students to explore all aspects of art and design, as well as delving into new and unique media such as 3D printing.

For the serious art student looking to gain college credit for taking courses during high school, we offer 2 different options.

Advanced Placement Drawing, 2D and 3D.  In these courses, each student must create a themed portfolio that is critiqued using strict guidelines created by the National College Board.  Those passing the rigorous portfolio test can earn college course credits.

International Baccalaureate Visual Arts program is a two year program students can take during their Junior and Senior years.  In this class, students will create 3 components that IB will grade them on: First a Comparative Study, where students will examine the work of other artists;  Second a Process Portfolio showing their learning process throughout the course; and finally students will create an exhibition of their own work. Those passing these components can earn college credits for the course.
