We strive to empower students to be critical thinkers, effective, ethical users and producers of ideas and information, and lifelong readers and learners ready to thrive within a diverse global society. We support curricular goals and empower students to become effective users of information by providing up-to-date resources in a variety of formats and training to use them. Above all, we promote acceptance, respect, and academic integrity at all times.

About Our Library

The Palo Verde Library Media Center offers many resources and services to enhance each student’s educational experience, promote information literacy, and support the common core standards for 21st-century learners.

Print Resources

The Palo Verde Library Media Center contains over 12,000 books, valued at more than $287,000. Of these, 69% are nonfiction titles that provide informational content about people, places, events, and cultures—supporting subjects such as math, English, reading, science, electives, IB, CTE, and social studies. The remaining 31% of the collection consists of fiction novels, offering a wide range of Lexile levels and genres to suit diverse reading preferences.

According to a TitleWise Collection Analysis conducted on August 7, 2025, the recommended library standard is two titles per student. We're proud to exceed that benchmark with 3.84 titles per student. Our collection continues to grow thanks to funding from CCSD, as well as revenue from late fees and school fundraisers.

Mrs. Baca is always seeking new, high-interest books to enhance our collection. Be sure to stop by and share your recommendations for high school-appropriate titles you'd like to see added!

Digital Resources

Students have access to 13 desktop computers and school-issued Chromebooks to support their online learning and research. These devices enable them to use the internet, various software programs, word processing, desktop publishing, testing platforms, and video or photo editing tools. Additionally, web-based programs provide 21st-century learners the flexibility to create digital projects both at school and at home through personal accounts.

Our growing eBook collection features thousands of titles available via Follett Destiny Discover, accessible through the Destiny Discover app in Clever. The library is also equipped with three 85-inch interactive flat panels, four 65-inch Smart TVs, two ceiling-mounted LCD projectors, and two computers paired with 65-inch monitors, all designed to facilitate device connectivity for collaborative projects. These collaboration areas comfortably seat twelve students each and are nestled among the library shelves, offering a private and focused environment.

Databases

The library offers access to several online databases, which can be reached via direct links in the Databases and eResources section using a password. Students receive their usernames and passwords through their classroom Canvas pages or by visiting the library to obtain a link to the off-campus access form. When connected to the CCSD Wi-Fi on campus, students are automatically logged in. Most of the databases can also be access through the students Clever accounts.

Our online databases draw from reputable scholarly sources and include content from newspapers, reference materials, magazines, books, and journals. These resources are available to support research and learning both at school and from home.

Checkout Policy

Students may check out an unlimited number of books for a loan period of four weeks. You can use the Follett Destiny Discover app through Clever to view your checked-out items and their due dates. Books can be renewed once. A late fee of $0.10 per book per day will be charged, up to a maximum of $5.00.

If a student has overdue library books, textbooks, technology items, or outstanding late fees from Palo Verde or any other CCSD school, they will not be allowed to graduate until all items are returned and fees are paid. Overdue notices are emailed to all students at least twice per school year, with seniors receiving notices quarterly.

Fines and overdue materials transfer between schools within CCSD, and librarians collaborate to collect any outstanding items and fees. Payments can be made through the Palo Webstore on our website. Please ensure all fines, fees, and materials are resolved promptly, as they must be cleared before graduation. Additionally, unpaid fines may result in restrictions from participating in extracurricular activities such as dances and out-of-town trips.

Webstore Fines and Fees

To pay fines, visit paloverde.org and click on the Webstore link. Log in using your student ID number, first initial, and last name. If you’ve changed your password, use your updated password. If you have trouble logging in, email our school banker with your student ID number and full name. The banker will respond with instructions. Please do not create a new account, as it will not be linked to you.

After logging in, select the “Fines” tab on the left. Find the appropriate fine category—such as Art, Theater, etc.—and pay accordingly. For textbook fines, use the “Textbook” icon; for library books, use the “Library Book” icon. If the fine is from another school, select the “Other Schools, Not Palo” icon. For questions about fines from other schools, please contact that school directly. If you don’t see a specific icon for your fine, you can pay under the “General Fines” icon. For any Webstore issues, contact the school banker.

When returning items to Palo Verde, please follow these guidelines: library books go to the library, technology equipment to the Site-Based Technicians (SBTs), and other items back to the advisor or coach who issued them. Textbooks should be returned to the teacher or department chairperson who provided the book. JROTC uniforms only need to be returned if you are no longer enrolled in the class. Technology borrowed from other schools must be returned to the respective school.
